****RealTalkToronto EXCLUSIVE**** Interview with "TRUTH, LIES in CHARLIE" Star: Roe Montez

Roe is a good friend of mine and I had a chance to sit down with him and get the inside scoop of his film.
Q: Tell us a little about your film.
A: Well, it’s a 20 minute Independent film that I wrote about 5 years ago and put under the rug. I dusted it off and decided that this was the perfect time to make it. We shot it in 5 days and I finished editing the first cut in a week.
The generalization of the story is that the main character Charlie, a Filipino guy in his, I would say around early-mid 20’s, is raised by a Caucasian family. He finds himself torn, because he has no clue about his roots and has so many questions that he feels he needs to get answers to. Along the way he runs into trouble and everything goes downhill from there. You’ll get that when you watch the trailer. I don’t really want to give too much away and there’s so much more to the story.
Q: How would you describe this experience?
A: Wow…how can I explain without talking forever. Besides getting 3 to 5 hours of sleep a night, I don’t think I’ve ever had this much responsibilities in my life at once in such a short time I had to get things done. It was crazy. But I’ve grown as an individual and have learned so much. Over all, it was an amazing experience.
Q: You wrote the script, directed, edited and even acted in it. This project has to mean a lot to you considering you were wearing a lot of hats.
A: This project was basically my life. Before shooting, during shooting and even after shooting, it was on my mind 24/7. Although I did wear a lot of hats, I can’t take all the credit because I had a lot of help from everyone and I couldn’t of done it without them. This project was all done on favors. I’m a very strong believer in Unity, and this project was just that. Everyone has their own thing going for them, but we all came together and worked on the film.
Q: So are you going to have a screening?
A: I was actually planning on having one right after I finished editing it. But I decided to make a trailer, promote wherever I can and see if people would go see the film.
Q: This is actually very inspiring. And I’m sure it will inspire others to work hard for what they want. Is there anything you would say to everyone if you had the chance.
A: Follow your passion, have patience and don’t let anyone discourage you from your dreams. Because everything starts off as a dream.
